What is Revalidation

horizontal rule

As it stands nurses and midwives are required to renew their registration every three years. This new revalidation process will strengthen the existing renewal process by introducing new requirements that focus on:

  • keeping up-to-date with practice and professional development (CPD)
  • reflection on the professional standards of practice and behaviour as set out in the new Code (March 2015), and
  • engagement in professional discussions with other registered nurses or midwives.

It's important to note that revalidation is not being introduced as an exam but it is essential to maintain your NMC registration.

The NMC have defined it as a way to "encourage a culture of sharing, reflection and improvement amongst nurses and midwives and will be a continuous process that nurses and midwives will have to engage with throughout their career."
